The Philippine Nurses Association of Oregon & Washington chapter hosted their 2009 “Spring
Fever” Fundraising Dinner Dance on May 9th, 2009 at Legin Restaurant in Portland, OR. This event will help
PNA-OR/WA jumpstart their 2009 fundraising campaign. Partial proceeds of this dinner dance will be donated to the Philippine
Nurses Association of America to help with their Gawad Kalinga Project & the Kababayan Emergency Preparedness Fund.

“Gawad Kalinga” means to give care. It has grown to be a movement
of nation-building.
This project is PNAA’s response to the call to help the poorest of the
poor in our country. Championed by Gawad Kalinga who has started the movement of nation building, we are going to partner
with them since they already have the template for these villages. Many have asked if participation in this project is mandatory?
The answer is NO, it is not. This is a purely voluntary endeavor and it “work from the heart”. The commitment
to pursue this project is a choice that we would like to invite all nurses to embrace.
We are also appealing to each chapter to sponsor a house, so we could have
our chapter names on each house. We understand that each chapter have their own challenges, but the spirit of this project
is to help and assist those chapters who might need help. The committee will suggest some creative ways and help each chapter
who might need assistance. Some have also expressed concern that PNAA is entering into a contract and are concerned that PNAA
funds will be needed to fund this project. Beth Rosas, the Finance Director for this project will be responsible for collecting
GK funds and she will explore the disbursement methods with PNAA officers. And the third question is what is the time-frame
for this project?

We have targeted December 2009 as the start of the first 10 houses to build,
but this is not set in stone. We can still adjust this target if needed and the completion of the build is within 3 years
which is the usual GK time-frame in all their villages. If it is possible for us to complete our village sooner, then it will
be completed sooner. Each village has 30 houses and we have 38 chapters, so if we have all the chapters on board, there will
be a multipurpose building.
Each house cost $2,300. dollars. PNAA
committee members have called and talked to most of the presidents, and we have the commitment for 12 houses at this time
and the committee is inspired to continue with this project because we know many villages were started with less than this
number to start with. We firmly believe that nurses will find it in their hearts to help build this village. There are no
guarantees, but we strongly feel that if there is a will, there is a way!

Goal: PNAA goal is to build a Village of 30 houses at the cost of $2,300.00 per
house
PLAN: PNA-OR/WA chapter will partner with PNA-Colorado in building
a house
