President’s
Report
May,
2006
Lucy
Laeser, MSN, RN, CRNI
Since the inception of the Philippine Nurses Association of Oregon and Washington (PNA-OR/WA)
in September, 2002, our organization through the previous leadership has accomplished so much from community health services
volunteer work to fundraising for the Philippine Medical Mission. Due to the departure of the President-Elect Judy Araque,
the association had to have an election of the President-Elect to assume the Presidency.
I believe that the President’s
position vested in me by the rest of the PNA-OR/WA officers happened for a worthy cause. It is with distinct honor and great
pleasure to have this opportunity to serve in the association for a term of two years. The trust and confidence placed on
me will definitely be treasured and I assure everyone to be proud of the officers’ decision for choosing me as the President.
As President of the PNA-OR/WA,
there are multiple responsibilities to undertake requiring time, devotion, patience, knowledge, and effort to be successful.
My vision for this association would be to create a stronger foundation for nurses today and in the future. I would like to
challenge everyone to participate and become an instrument for the stronger foundation for nurses today. Building a stronger
foundation for nurses today means self development and self improvement, sharing knowledge and influencing other nurses and
profession in the community, participating in the creation and improvement of different projects to enhance lives, culture,
beliefs, practices, and health.
PNA-OR/WA is a non-profit,
professional organization that was organized to unify Filipino nurses. As unified nurses and citizen of the country, our goal
is to be able to give back to the community, regardless of race, culture, religion, or sex. PNA-OR/WA membership needs to
increase by doubling or tripling its current size of 36 regular members and seven auxiliary members. As the membership increases,
the workforce will also increase, thereby providing increased services to the community. Please take time to attend our monthly
meetings where your input makes a great difference in our organization.
Lastly, I feel proud and applaud the hard work of our past President, Fred Calixtro. Thanks to all the officers,
members, and supporters of the association. Without the help of the supporters, contributors, and fellow members, I would
not be in the position where I can touch and make a difference in people’s lives in the community, as well as the nursing
profession.
